NPS Changing of the Guard

Both Mike Reuber and Dave Forney are now retired. We will miss their personal dedication and certainly their unwavering support of NCSP. In 2008, we also expect additional NPS staff changes. These outstanding NPS staff members have teamed with us for a great many years. They each have our deep gratitude for all their fine
efforts and accomplishments.
In February, 2008 Vidal Martinez is expected to become the new superintendent for the Upper
Delaware S & R River. He has 32 years of federal experience including the U S Fish & Wildlife Service and as superintendent of National Parks in Virginia and Maryland. Martinez
worked to establish a new visitor center at Thomas Stone in Maryland and recently developed an international “sister” park relationship between George Washington Birthplace Monument, Virginia and Sulgrave Manor, the Washington
family's ancestral home in England.
A native New Yorker, Martinez and his wife Zoraida have 4 children, ages 22, 21, 10 and four. We extend a warm welcome to Vidal and his
family and look forward to a continued strong working relationship between NPS and NCSP.

New Sign-In Procedures

Absent Mike Reuber's unfailing assistance, we are
implementing a new sign-in procedure with NPS
for 2008. This procedure will be used on
weekends and holidays to decide patrol locations
and to secure and return NPS radios and drybags.
NCSP volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. (not 8 a.m.)
at the NPS Zane Grey office in Lackawaxen, PA.
Folks are to be “river ready”; that is, fed and
geared to patrol. Our NPS contact will be Ingrid
Peterec, Intern Supervisor. This procedure gives
us the capability to better coordinate the activities
of NCSP members and NPS interns. NPS will be
responsible for supplying needed radios, batteries
and drybags each morning and receiving same at
the end of the patrols. Each NCSP member will be
signed in at that time for a given patrol.
The Ingrid’s NPS office is on the 2nd floor of the
Zane Grey museum in Lackawaxen on the PA
side of the Roebling Bridge. We will no longer
meet at campsites. This procedure will be in effect
from May 1 thru October of each year.
