 NPS Powerlines Action Alert
Susquehanna-Roseland Powerlines threaten The Delaware River and Water Gap’s scenic beauty National Park Service Public Hearings Scheduled for February 16, 17 and 18.
PSE&G and PP&L are proposing to expand their transmission powerline right-of-way across the Delaware River, through the Wild and Scenic Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and across the Appalachian Trail. The proposed powerlines include towers twice as tall as the tree line. You will be able to see these eyesores from miles away on the river, on the trail, from the swimming hole, in the car, from your hotel room – from everywhere. The National Park Service (NPS) is conducting an environmental impact study to document the impact these powerlines will have on the natural resources and on YOUR VISITOR EXPERIENCE. Your input is needed so the NPS understands how important our National Parks are to you, your children and grand children. Come to one of these meeting and let your voice be heard:

Wilderness First Aid
This class focuses on preventing, recognizing, and treating common wilderness injuries and illnesses when activation or response of the local EMS system will be delayed beyond 30 minutes. The principles of the course are based upon several different disciplines in wilderness medicine. Among these are: Wilderness Medical Society Practice Guidelines, current American Red Cross guidelines, general protocols established by the Wilderness Emergency Medical Services Institute, current research and experience of the CDS Outdoor School, Inc. staff, and the information contained in the course texts. All techniques and information taught in this course are in line with the standard of care established by the Wilderness Medical Society for a wilderness environment. 16 hours.

The National Park Service Upper Delaware is offering Ice Rescue Training on Monday, January 25th at the Darbytown Access across the river from Narrowsburg, NY at 10:30am. Any members of the NCSP are invited to attend this training if they would like some winter rescue experience. Sean McGuinness named NPS Superintendent
Sean J McGuinness was selected as the new superintendent of Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, replacing Vidal Martinez. Sean's most recent assignment was at Fire Island National Seashore where he worked collaboratively with 17 communities with in park boundaries..
McGuinness began his NPS career in 1977 as a seasonal river patrol ranger at Grand Teton National Park. He served in parks in Alaska, Mississippi and at Crater Lake National Park and the Mojave National Preserve in jobs ranging from forester, law enforcement officer, chief ranger to deputy superintendent.
A native New Yorker , McGuinness was born in Buffalo and grew up in Lake View, NY. He graduated with a BA in Psychology from New York College at Fredonia in 1977. McGuinness's interests include paragliding, backcountry travel, sailing, family and friends. He is expected to assume his new position on the Upper Delaware S & RR in early February 2010. |
